EK3 to clean former battery site near Leduc, Alberta
topic 1 pic
GEE’s insitu electrokinetic remediation technology, EK3, has been successfully installed near Leduc, Alberta to remediate salt contamination in the soil and groundwater at a former battery site. The Leduc project brings the total number of EK3 projects to three in the last six months. “We’re seeing great results from our EK3 projects and more and more customers are inquiring about how EK3 can be used to clean up other problem sites…that means it’s getting even busier around here,” cites GEE President, Sean Frisky. For more information on how GEE’s EK3 innovation can help you, go to our website or email gee@groundeffects.org.

GEE is expanding… and expanding…
We’re bursting with pride about our latest innovations. We’re also bursting at the seams. As positive results continue to roll in from the initial EK3 projects and installations, GEE projects EK3 sales to increase dramatically in 2008. To accommodate the increased demand, Phase I of GEE’s planned expansion to its facilities in Regina will roll ahead with the addition of 12,000 square feet of manufacturing and service facilities. Future expansion plans include further additions to our manufacturing facilities and adding a service centre to our Calgary operations.

GEE Receives 100% Rating on Safety Program Certificate of Recognition
topic 1 pic
Because safety is a high priority at GEE, we’re exceptionally proud of this accomplishment. This fall, GEE underwent a safety audit to maintain our COR Safety Certification. The audit is conducted every three years and includes detailed scrutiny of policies, procedures, facilities and equipment inspection as well as personnel interviews. GEE passed with flying colours—receiving the extremely rare rating of 100%. The inspectors remarked that they had never seen such a well-devised and implemented safety program accompanied by our high levels of staff buy-in and participation in the program. Special thanks for this success can be attributed to GEE’s Business Operations Manager, Blain Deringer, who is in charge of GEE’s safety program, as well as to all of the diligent GEE shop and field personnel who take safety seriously in their day-to-day operations. For more information, you can email Blain at bderinger@groundeffects.org or call 306.352.1400.

RemTech 2007 a Succes

The Remediation Technologies Symposium 2007 (RemTechTM 2007) was a resounding success. As an exhibitor and Bronze-level sponsor, GEE gained valuable exposure to the environmental professionals community. A highlight of the symposium -- Pioneer Land and Environmental Services along with partners Shell Canada Energy and the National Research Council of Canada presented the successful findings of the insitu salt remediation pilot study that utilized GEE’s EK3 Electrokinetic Remediation technology. For a copy of the presentation, please go to the Environmental Services Association of Alberta (ESAA) Events website here. Thank you to the ESAA for organizing such a great event and to all of those who came by to visit us in our booth. See you again next year!

Ground Effects Uses Bio-diesel and Bio-diesel Fuel Conditioner in GEE Fleet
topic 1 pic
Hey, we don’t just clean up the environment, we also do what we can to keep it healthy. That’s why we recently implemented bio-diesel and bio-diesel fuel conditioner in the GEE fleet of field trucks. Biodegradable and nontoxic, bio-diesel is a fuel derived from vegetable oil or animal fats that can be an additive to, or entirely replace, conventional petroleum diesel fuel. Milligan Bio-Tech (Foam Lake, Saskatchewan) produces their bio-diesel from 100% canola oil that burns cleaner and increases lubricity and fuel mileage. GEE has started by adding the fuel conditioner to its fleet, to be followed by the migration to a B10 blend (10% bio-diesel). For more information on GEE’s bio-diesel fleet, e-mail gee@groundeffects.org or call 306.352.1400.

GEE Deep in the Heart of Texas…and Mexic
topic 1 pic

GEE Business Development Manager, Calvin Prokop, recently attended a trade mission to Houston, Texas and Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, organized by the Saskatchewan Enviromental Industry and Managers Association (SEIMA), the Government of Canada, Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership (STEP), the Government of Alberta and Canglobal Managment Inc. In the US and Mexico, as in Canada, salt contaminated soil and groundwater generated from produced water spills is a major problem. There is keen interest in both markets for GEE’s EK3 Electrokinetic Remediation technology. As a result of the mission, feasibility studies regarding an EK3 pilot project in the southern states are currently underway. For more information on starting a feasibility study for a project for your organization, e-mail gee@groundeffects.org or call 306.352.1400.
